About the Author

Hi, I’m Kimia. Welcome to my blog!

I am a third-year Neuroscience student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, set to graduate in May of 2021.
I am a Mellon Foundation Scholar through the Engaged Humanities Initiative at UIC, and my research, as reflected on this blog, is on Health and Illness in marginalized communities.

My other extracurricular activities include:

  • I am a student researcher in the Comparative Genomics Laboratory, where I work on the chemotherapeutic drug susceptibility of HCC Cell lines in the Oncopig Cancer Model project.
  • I serve as the e-board of the Alternative Spring Break Organization, in which I plan and lead volunteering events across Chicagoland as a part of our Steet Views of Chicago program.
  • I am a Teaching Assistant for the OT360 Promoting Wellbeing class taught by Dr. Goodman. This course provides opportunities for students to gain knowledge and skills from an occupational therapy perspective to promote self-management and wellbeing for themselves and others. The concepts introduced in OT360 apply to academic, social, work, and professional roles students encounter later in life.
  • I am a Licensed Behavior Health Technician, and I deliver Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy when working with kids who have autism.
